Kinetic Installation: a flock of birds vibrates, expressing collective interaction and self-organization in nature and society.
Part of a project of moving artworks powered by natural elements, this installation depicts a flock of birds made from the same material as the school of sardines, suspended on fishing lines in stop-motion. The movement of the water in the aquarium makes the birds vibrate, simulating flight. The work is closely connected to the school of sardines: both show how individual units come together in complex collective behaviors, without hierarchies, through simple and effective rules of self-organization. In the Piazza San Marco version, the flock symbolizes the people filling the squares, asserting their voice, and creating a superorganism with collective intelligence.
Each element finds new connections, dialoguing with works related by technique or inspiration. These relationships expand the meaning of the original work, inviting the viewer to discover interweavings, references and suggestions that enrich the visual and creative experience in an ever new path.
A multitude of individual elements creates, as in nature, a single large entity: a superorganism with collective intelligence.
